Ellptic Semiconductor licenses its IPSec core to Centillium Communications
February 25, 2004 – Ottawa, Canada. – Elliptic Semiconductor today announced that Centillium Communications has licensed Elliptic’s IPSec offload engine for use in its ADSL System-on-Chip (SoC) product family.
Digital Subscriber Loop technology is undergoing a dramatic increase in speed with ADSL reaching up to 40 Mbps or more in countries such as China, Japan and Korea. The increase in overall throughput coupled with a steady rise in worldwide deployments makes DSL the preferred method of Internet access for corporate email, extranets and remote access for mobile and/or home based employees. Increasingly businesses use either IPSec or SSL virtual private networks (VPNs) to conduct business with complete privacy over the increasingly hostile Internet.
“Providing unsurpassed performance and advanced security features continue to be two of the key attributes that differentiate Centillium from our competitors,” said Tony Shakib, General Manager for Centillium’s Access & Networking Business Units. “The integration of Elliptic’s IPSec core into our ADSL product family enhances our DSL security offering.”
Gord Harling, president and CEO of Elliptic Semiconductor said “Our selection by Centillium for this pivotal integration into an ADSL application confirms Elliptic Semiconductor as a premier supplier of IPSec cores for this burgeoning market. It has been a great pleasure to work with the very talented team at Centillium and we thank them for the opportunity to work together on this important SoC design.”
