Silvus Communication Systems Demonstrates Mobile MIMO

Real-time 2x2 MIMO 802.11n PHY on FPGA Also Demonstrated

Los Angeles, Calif. -- September 15, 2006 -- Silvus Communication Systems announced today that it has demonstrated a compact Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transceiver operating in both indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoors, Silvus showed a 2x2 MIMO receiver supporting a throughput rate of 26Mbps while traveling at 65 miles per hour at distances of more than a kilometer from the transmitter. Indoors, Silvus demonstrated the same physical layer supporting a data rate of 117Mbps while operating in full compliance with the IEEE 802.11n draft standard.

“No other physical layer on the market offers this range of flexibility and performance in one package,” says David Fogelsong, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Silvus. “This is the only commercial-grade implementation of MIMO that’s built using Field Programmable Gate Arrays and purely off-the-shelf components. It can be used as a turnkey development platform or embedded within other systems.” “The same platform will also support 3x3 and 4x4 MIMO,” says Babak Daneshrad, Silvus’s founder and Chairman. “We have 3x3 operating in the lab already, and 4x4 will be available soon.”

MIMO is a signal processing technology which utilizes multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas to improve communications range, throughput, and reliability without requiring increases in channel bandwidth or transmission power. MIMO is the fundamental technology underlying 802.11n, which follows 802.11a/b/g as the next evolution in the popular wireless LAN standard.

About Silvus Communication Systems

Silvus Communication Systems, Inc. is a privately held wireless technology company focused on providing MIMO baseband solutions to both military and mainstream commercial customers. Founded in 2004 by a group of MIMO experts from UCLA, and leveraging more than 20 man-years of MIMO experience, Silvus is the only company to offer MIMO and 802.11n related firmware to power either pre-configured or custom development platforms which are built around readily-available DSP or FPGA industry standard hardware. Based in Los Angeles, California, Silvus is developing a comprehensive technology catalog which provides military anti-jamming capability as well as management of wireless interference/congestion in Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, and other wireless protocols in both the licensed and unlicensed bands. Other areas of development include MIMO Software Defined Radio, MIMO test beds, MIMO software and simulation models, and MIMO Semiconductor IP cores.
