videantis announces full HD 1080p video codec IP solution for mobile and consumer devices
Low-power multi-core design enables H.264/AVC baseline profile 1080p encoding and H.264/AVC high profile 1080p video decoding with multi-standard extensibility
Hannover, Germany – October 06, 2008 – videantis GmbH, a leading provider of programmable video engines, today announced the addition of the new v-MP4180HDX 1080p full HD video encode and decode IP to its growing portfolio of scalable multi-standard video IP solutions. By combining a powerful, programmable high definition stream unit with multiple video engines, the v-MP4180HDX solution is capable of encoding and decoding video up to full HD 1080p resolution in a wide range of standards on extremely small silicon area with less than 1MHz load on the host CPU.
“The increasing cost pressure in the highly competitive video IC market requires chip makers to quickly jump to the next level of innovation to get ahead of their competitors,” says Young-Hun Kluge, VP Sales and Marketing of videantis GmbH. “With the new videantis v-MP4180HDX solution, chip providers in the mobile and consumer video domain can now surpass competition with low-power full 1080p video capabilities while being able to react to rapidly changing market requirements in terms of video standards and features with a future-proof, software-upgradeable approach.”
At only 7.9mm2 in 65nm technology, the v-MP4180HDX solution is capable of full HD 1080p video encoding for multiple standards like H.264 BP and MPEG-4. On the same silicon footprint, the v-MP4180HDX also supports full HD 1080p multi-standard video decoding including H.264/AVC up to High Profile, VC-1/WMV9 up to Advanced Profile, MPEG-4, DivX/XviD, RealVideo, Flash, MPEG-2, and JPEG just by firmware change.
A wide range of value-add image and video processing features like deinterlacing and upscaling is supported on top of decoding and encoding without increase in silicon.
Based on a wide scalability in the number of stream units and video engines, further solution packages can be tailored according to customers’ needs.
The v-MP4180HDX full HD 1080p video IP solution is immediately available for licensing.
