OptNgn Releases 264 FFT FPGA Library Elements that are High Performance, Vendor Independent, and Instantly Downloadable
Portland, Oregon -- April 7, 2010 -- Altera, Xilinx and Mentor Graphics Precision Synthesis users can instantly download, at a cost of $60-$600, streaming FFT IP that will process up to 250 Million complex samples per second. Users who need to accelerate spectral applications can immediately benefit from the new FFT vendor independent libraries released by OptNgn today.
About the Library
These FFT libraries are delivered as InstaIP and are high throughput 2-power complex 1-dimensional FFT instances tuned for use in FPGAs. Each element is instantly available now and consists of a netlist, synthesis wrappers, simulation testbench, Scilab/Matlab validation model, scripts, and documentation.
The user selects the transform point size (16-16k), bit width (16,18,24,35), output format (natural or scrambled), and vendor (Xilinx, Altera, or Mentor Graphics Precision Synthesis), and downloads the library element for instant use. These transforms are the cornerstone building blocks used in applications involving spectral and signature analysis for the test, measurement and industrial markets, ODFM based communication systems, for the wireless and wired markets, video and audio filtering for the imaging and signal processing markets, and convolution based object finding and recognition algorithms, for the military, medicine, and scientific based markets.
“Our customers like the platform independence that Impulse C-to-FPGA Platform Support Package technology affords them. The OptNgn FFT libraries, along with its Interface Design Kit for ImpulseC takes the next step in allowing high-performance vendor independent libraries for developers looking for a fast path to efficient FPGA deployment of C algorithms.” said Brian Durwood, CEO of Impulse Accelerated Technologies.
“Using our Parallel Compiler technology (PNgn), coupled with mathematical engineering expertise, we have produced click-to-buy high performance, optimal arithmetic resource streaming FFT library elements for FPGAs, targeted to multiple chip and tool vendors. The new way that we are delivering this library rivals that of software delivery, with the customer being able to purchase exactly what they need in their design today, with an upgrade path for the future that includes switching vendors, technologies and licensing.” stated Alan Coppola, President of OptNgn Software.
Uses for FFT
The library elements can typically perform at 250 Million Complex Samples Per Second, which makes them particularly useful in spectral applications for spectrum/signature computation or in object finding across various industries, especially when configured as a convolution co-processor consisting of a streaming FFT-Filter-IFFT component that finds matches between the input stream and a target object library.
Benefits
The combination of arithmetic expression scheduling and resource usage, memory mapping, fixed-point resolution, algorithmic elegance, and vendor independence all combine to save the user 3-6 man months of development and validation time for each project. The availablity of multiple vendors, technologies (FPGA or ASIC), and licensing allows that same savings to be garnered across multiple projects.
The FFT Library elements are priced from $60-$300 per element for the Xilinx and Altera versions, with the Mentor version costing twice as much, due to the element’s ability to be retargeted to all of the FPGA vendors supported by Mentor, including Xilinx and Altera.
