Wintegra Adds to MIPS-based Family of Devices for DSLAMs
Family of Devices Standardized on the MIPS64™ 5Kc™ Core for Software Compatibility and Superior Feature Set
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 19, 2003 – MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB), a leading provider of processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, today announced that Wintegra Inc., a fabless semiconductor company targeting the access infrastructure market today, has launched two new additions to its 64-bit MIPS64™ 5Kc™-based range of products for DSLAM systems. The WIN717D4 and WIN717D6 have been tailored to match the price, features and performance needed in small DSLAMs (24-48 ports) and are subsets of the WIN737, which is already an established leader in the DSL space.
“We use the 5Kc core as the standard throughout our range,” said Robert O’Dell, vice president of marketing at Wintegra. “Because it is a synthesizable core we have the flexibility to tune it to deliver the right combination of performance, power consumption and die size to suit each different product in our range. In the case of the WIN717D4 and WIN717D6, we have achieved excellent price/performance points that are ideal for small DSLAMs.”
The WIN717D4 and WIN717D6 provide the fundamental components for a broad array of DSL systems, from line cards to uplink cards to “pizza boxes”, to multi-dwelling units to chassis designs. Like other members of the successful WinPath® processor family, the 717D4 and 717D6 are supplied with a broad list of communication protocols that are royalty free and production verified. All WinPath devices run the same software, providing a seamless upgrade path from very low end to high performance/high bandwidth systems.
“DSL is an ideal market segment for MIPS Technologies’ high performance cores and Wintegra’s innovative use of the 5Kc in DSLAMs demonstrates its performance capabilities,” said Jack Browne, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. “Since forty percent of DSL products today are based on the MIPS architecture, Wintegra’s customers can leverage the strong ecosystem of third party tools and applications available for their MIPS-based control plane cores¯enabling success in the growing DSL market.”
