Silicon Image To Enable High-Definition Media Content In Mobile Applications on AMD Platforms
SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 8, 2008 – Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leader in semiconductors and intellectual property for the secure storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition content, today announced its collaboration with AMD to offer Silicon Image’s DVI™ and HDMI™ transmitter solutions for next-generation AMD processor-based mobile, thin-client, point-of-sale, and gaming systems.
Silicon Image's VastLane™ HDMI and DVI transmitters will interface with AMD M690E and AMD M690T chipsets over the Digital Video Output (DVO) bus for high-resolution display of high-definition media content in embedded systems.
“The ability to enhance a user's mobile or kiosk digital experience by driving one or more displays simultaneously is now an option with a Silicon Image DVI or HDMI solution on an AMD embedded platform,” said Buddy Broeker, director, Embedded Computing Solutions Division, AMD. “The future of mobile, digital content is tied to DVI and HDMI technology and Silicon Image’s products can play a critical role in the transition to HDTV in AMD processor-based embedded systems.”
The VastLane HDMI and DVI transmitters are intended specifically for mobile devices such as digital cameras, portable media players, camcorders, ultra mobile PCs and mobile phones, as well as small form factor client systems. The transmitters are designed to offer ultra-low power consumption and extended battery life, reduce overall system bill-of-materials (BOM) costs and improve reliability.
“We're beginning to reach critical mass when it comes to users wanting on-demand HD media content on feature-rich mobile devices," Conrad A. Maxwell, senior product line manager at Silicon Image. "Our work with AMD allows us to integrate our HDMI and DVI technologies into one of the leading embedded processor platforms that helps enable the delivery of energy efficient, premium multimedia content to a global customer base.”
Silicon Image products supported by AMD validation platforms are:
-
SiI9022 HDMI transmitter (1080p resolution, up to 165 MHz of bandwidth);
-
SiI9024 HDMI transmitter (High-Definition Content Protection (HDCP), 1080p resolution, 165 MHz of bandwidth);
