New patented solutions from Dolphin Integration for pop-up noise reduction
. Designers must face the challenge of managing the growing complexity in audio systems due to the progress of audio technology, while ensuring the overall quality of systems, especially for high definition applications. As a consequence, undesirable noises such as pop-up have to be removed or avoided.
Pop-up is an audible glitch, which corresponds to the transient noise occurring when the audio path switches from one operating mode to another, and it results from sharp variations of the operating voltage of components. This phenomenon really damages the listening comfort as pop-up is an unpleasant noise which reduces the perceived quality of the audio system.
From now, Dolphin has been the sole supplier of audio virtual components to clearly specify and measure pop-up noise, through the estimation of a peak value corresponding to transition noise of power supply, in order to provide customers with a real commitment in their specifications.
The company now registers two new patents for pop-up noise reduction systems, one efficient during "Power Up" of audio systems, and the other during the transition of audio systems to and from standby mode. "These new patents will enable the design of improved Virtual Components", confirms Hélène Colin, Audio Product Line Manager. "SoC integrators wishing to address audio applications where high definition is at stake, such as HDTV and DVD players, will be fully satisfied by this new improvement in our audio converters”. As a consequence, Dolphin appears as the one and only supplier to commit about pop-up noise in specifications sheets, while relying on patented solutions.
Diverse solutions for Pop-up noise reduction already are implemented and available in ultra low power components from Dolphin, namely shDAC95-Helium and shCOD106.HD50.
