Gaisler Research Announces ThreadX RTOS Support for the LEON processor
Gothenburg, Sweden – April 11th, 2007
- Gaisler Research AB, the leader in System on Chip (SoC) design, today announced that Express Logic’s ThreadX® RTOS now is supported by the LEON3 processor. A port, a board support package and a demonstration application are now available for the GNU based SW development environment.
"Express Logic’s leadership in royalty-free real-time operating systems makes them an ideal partner for us,” said Jiri Gaisler, Founder & CTO of Gaisler Research. “ThreadX presents a small memory footprint with an easy to use, rich set of system services such as threads, message queues, counting semaphores, and mutexes. We are pleased to include ThreadX in our development environment, providing developers with a convenient introduction to the capabilities of ThreadX in their applications."
ThreadX is Express Logic’s small, fast, royalty-free RTOS for demanding real-time applications. Its royalty-free business model makes ThreadX extremely attractive for high-volume devices. ThreadX’s ease-of-use enables ThreadX-powered devices to get to market on time and within budget, which accounts for ThreadX’s success in the marketplace and its high-volume implementations. ThreadX has been widely embraced and is currently deployed in excess of 450 million electronic products.
The LEON3 is a high-performance 32-bit SPARC V8 processor that provides computing capabilities to cost-sensitive embedded microcontroller applications at a cost equivalent to legacy 8- and 16-bit processors. The processor is available as a soft core for instantiations into both FPGAs and ASICs. The LEON3 processor is targeted at space, military, industrial and consumer electronics applications, such as satellites, digital set top boxes, and industrial power control devices.
"We are pleased to support Gaisler Research and the LEON3 processor,” commented John Carbone, Vice President of Marketing at Express Logic. “The LEON3 processor, which is available in source code, provides high performance and flexibility that meets the demands of any System on Chip design. The fault tolerant version delivers capabilities to protect against soft errors which are required for military and aerospace applications."
Shipping and Availability
ThreadX is available from Express Logic in full source code form, royalty free, at license prices starting at $12,500. The LEON3 port and the BSP are available from Gaisler Research when licensing the LEON3 processor.
