P-Product and ASOCS Offer Software-Defined Radio Solution for Node B Base Stations
WCDMA/HSPA SDR Solution Rounds Out HetNet Portfolio for Mobile Equipment
Boston, MA, and Tel Aviv, Israel – September 3, 2013 – P-Product, Inc., a software design center specializing in developing, optimizing and porting audio, video and communications algorithms and applications for various platforms, and ASOCS Ltd., a silicon IP provider of software-defined radio (SDR) solutions, today announced a partnership to develop an SDR-based solution for Node B 3G base stations for the mobile infrastructure market.
The Node B is one of the main elements of the 3G (UMTS) network which uses Wideband Code Division Multiple Access/High Speed Packet Access (WCDMA/HSPA) air interface standard. It’s responsible for the radio link between mobile devices and fixed part of the network. Today, due to variety of new deployment scenarios for 3G infrastructure, it requires a scalable solution with an optimal software-hardware partition.
The two companies are incorporating P-Product’s Node B physical layer (PHY) library (often called layer 1 software) into ASOCS’ CR2100® family of Modem Processing Units (MPUs). ASOCS’ MPUs are real-time, MPL-compliant, multi-standard SDR solutions that can be configured (and reconfigured) for a wide variety of 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE), 3G (WCDMA/HSPA and TD-SCDMA), 4G (LTE and LTE-Advanced), and Wi-Fi 802.11a/g/n/ac cellular and wireless communications standards.
Today’s agreement will enable scalable mobile network equipment to address any product required in heterogeneous networks (HetNets) comprised of small cell base stations, traditional macro base stations and centralized Cloud-RAN (C-RAN) base station pools.
“This agreement is significant,” said Will Strauss, President of Forward Concepts. “ASOCS is well respected for its SDR MPU and known for taking a leadership role in furthering the adoption of C-RAN. P-Product is already delivering its designs on multiple platforms. Any company looking to enter the mobile radio access network using multi-mode communications can be assured of a comprehensive hardware and software solution.”
“ASOCS is delighted to add P-Product’s Node B Layer 1 implementation to our multi-standard CR2100 solution,” said Gilad Garon, CEO of ASOCS. “With Node B Layer 1 integration, the CR2100 becomes an even more versatile, standards-based, physical layer platform, managing a multitude of wireless network technologies seamlessly in software.”
“New wireless topologies such as HetNet and C-RAN necessitate software flexibility and hardware efficiency," said Michael Vulikh, CEO of P-Product. “With its innovative MPU technology, ASOCS provides an efficient processing foundation for our software PHY. Our customers will benefit from an ‘all-in-one’ Layer 1 solution for Node B base stations.”
