Dolphin Integration: The first 16-bit MCU core 8051 upward compatible, achieving 0.4 DMIPS/MHz
Meylan, France - September 24, 2010 -- The Enabler of mixed signal Systems-on-Chip unveils Flip80251-Hurricane, the latest member of its 16-bit microcontroller family; upward compatible with the i80251 legacy for best density, Flip80251-Hurricane offers increased addressing and processing power with the lowest power consumption.
Its association with best-in-class libraries and power regulators now complements the extensive set of expected peripherals such as UART, I2C bus, SPI, Built-in Debuggers and In-Circuit Emulator. It enables SoC integrators to achieve the best performance in a configuration around 16-bit cores facing a growing demand after the frenzy toward excessive word sizes.
The demand for ever lower-cost with increasing product connectivity (e.g. USB, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15) and sophisticated analog sensors (e.g. accelerometers, touch screens) implies to more tightly integrate analog devices with digital pre-processing and communication.
Most 8-bit devices do not offer the performance to sustain such tasks without significant increases of clock rate and therefore in power consumption: this is why SoC Integrators are required to look for alternative devices with more advanced processor technology.
Flip80251-Hurricane, targets 8-bit or 16-bit microcontroller applications requiring an increase processing power, a reduced operating frequency or a larger memory space. It is a natural upgrade to address energy efficiency concerns in microcontroller applications.
