LPDDR3 Is A Half-Step
LPDDR3 has quickly gained traction to meet the demands of mobile devices, but it will have a relatively short run as LPDDR4 ramps up in the next two years.
Mike Howard, senior principal analyst at IHS, told us LPDDR3 came on all of sudden in response to the high performance and density requirements 2010 and 2011 of smartphones that its predecessor couldn't handle. But though LPDDR3 was an improvement over LPDDR2, it's really just a half step, adding performance improvements without addressing power concerns. "LPDDR4 has been given more thought and planned out more."
