Xilinx Announces Virtex-II Pro FPGA Development Board

New board enables fast system prototyping for broad range of applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 12, 2003-Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced the immediate availability of Advanced FPGA Xccessories (AFX) development boards for designing with Xilinx Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGAs. The newest AFX board supports devices in the FF1152 package and is the latest in a series of AFX development boards for Virtex-II Pro FPGAs. The board enables IP developers to design products for a broad range of applications including storage, networking, DSP functions, test equipment, industrial control, as well as emerging serial and parallel connectivity standards and embedded processing.

Xilinx Virtex-II Pro Prototype and Demonstration AFX boards allow designers to investigate and experiment with the features of Virtex-II Pro devices and arrive at the optimal architecture. A growing number of customers use Xilinx development boards for rapid prototyping and to develop FPGA designs in parallel with the design of their printed circuit board.

The AFX board can be used for implementing applications in Virtex-II Pro FPGAs using the industry's fastest FPGA logic, flexible embedded multipliers, dual port block RAM, digital clock managers, XCITE digitally controlled impedance technology, RocketIO serial transceivers, SelectIO-Ultra single-ended and differential parallel I/Os, and embedded PowerPC processors.

The board has a versatile on-board prototyping area, 8 MB SDRAM memory, RS232 serial port, eight pairs of SMA connectors for access to four full-duplex RocketIO transceivers, headers for PowerPC processor debug & trace, multiple clocks, multiple voltages, and independent power supplies. The Virtex-II Pro FPGA can be configured using on-board SPROMs as well as Xilinx SystemACE configuration solutions. Four SMA-to-SMA coaxial cable assemblies and test point headers are available.

Pricing and Availability
Priced at $1695, the AFX board (part number HW-AFX-FF1152-300) is available for immediate purchase from the Xilinx online store (www.xilinx.com). The board supports XC2VP20, XC2VP30, XC2VP40, and XC2VP50 Virtex-II Pro FPGAs in the FF1152 package in all speed grades.
