TES Announces New Reference Platform for Telematics Applications
Langon, France -- March 12, 2007 - TES Electronic Solutions, the global electronics design and manufacturing services company, today announces a new telematics reference platform based on Texas Instruments' DM644x DaVinci processor. It is the CDM/RP-DVTM, the third reference platform launched by TES as part of its Custom Design and Manufacturing (CDM) strategy.
The CDM/RP-DVTM provides advanced capabilities that allow companies to build telematics applications and start system integration while TES takes care of hardware optimization for the product target market. The new platform is aimed at companies working in the growing telematics industry. These are moving or have moved from a small integrator business model to an industrial business model.
The CDM/RP-DVTM platform integrates a set of new on-board telematics features:
- A large field-programmable gate array (FPGA), tightly coupled with the processor through TI VLYNQ interface and to 3x PC-MIP dense extension connectors used to support requirements such as MOST, CAN or LIN with daughter boards
- Positioning (GPS) and WAN connection (GSM/GPRS/UMTS or CDMA)
- Accelerometre and Gyro
- ATA, Ethernet, USB
- Audio, visual, LCD output, opening the DVTM to the latest driver visible applications, including navigation, GUI HMI's, interactive fleet management and cabin control
The platform includes two key hardware components. The Texas Instruments DM644x DaVinci CPU and Altera Cyclone II FPGA device communicate using the VLYNQ interface, enabling the reference platform to provide effective communication between the CPU and the FPGA.
TES is currently developing enhanced software support options for CDM/PR-DVTM. Linux and a template Track and Trace application are currently available. Under development is software support for IP integration, starting with HMI graphics, including eVRU (embedded Vector Rendering Unit), eGML (embedded Graphics Multiplatform Library) and GUIliani (Multiplatform GUI-Framework). TES is also in the process of porting JAVA and OSGi to open the DVTM platform to any thin client device, offering a platform that is completely managed separately from the back office servers.
“This new platform is a prime example of TES’s CDM value, bringing companies much lower risk, a further reduction in time to market, and a much greater control of costs,” said Nick Walker, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing. “We see the telematics market as crucial to TES’s development and now are sure that we offer by far the highest level of services for potential partners looking to explore, and those already in, the telematics marketplace.”
About TES eVRU and eGML
eVRU is a powerful embedded vector rendering engine that TES has specially developed for Dual Core embedded systems. Targeting applications requiring high quality and real-time graphics generation, eVRU runs in parallel with the other system applications.
eGML is a software API for developing graphic applications requiring high quality real-time graphics generation on embedded devices. Further information is available at http://www.tesbv.com/ecomaXL/index.php?site=TES_EN_1_graphics
