New LTRIM Boost Converters Boast High-Efficiency - Analog IP blocks target Single and Dual battery-powered products
Design Automation Conference, Anaheim, CA, June 13, 2005 – Taking aim at market demands for longer battery life in portable devices, LTRIM today announced a pair of high-efficiency step-up (boost) DC-DC converter IP blocks. LTRIM specializes in high-performance power management and other analog intellectual property (IP) solutions that integrate into mixed-signal system-on-chips (SoCs) and other analog chips. SoC designers will find LTRIM’s new IP blocks advantageous for power-constrained applications such as high-end mobile phones, Wi-Fi, MP3, 3D graphics on mobile devices, digital video, Bluetooth/USB interfaces, and other battery-operated applications.
Designed specifically to extend battery life in portable devices, LTRIM’s LTR2250-T18 provides a 0.9V – 1.7V input voltage range for single-battery applications, while the LTR2200-T18 provides an input voltage range of 1.1V – 3.3V that is suitable for dual battery devices. Both highly efficient IP blocks feature very low quiescent- and shutdown-current specifications, fast response times, and low output ripple.
“Battery power conservation is one of the most talked-about characteristics of today’s portable consumer devices,” said Mike Shamshirian, LTRIM Vice president of Corporate Sales. “Our new boost converter blocks give chip designers a powerful approach to making batteries last longer in the products they design.”
Both the LTR2250-T18 and the LTR2200-T18 include internal 500mV voltage references, soft-start control and fault detection. Both IP blocks are architected to allow the use of small surface-mount inductors and ceramic capacitors, without requiring the use of a Shottky diode.
As with all of LTRIM’s high-performance power-management and analog IP, the new boost converters can be easily integrated into mixed-signal SoCs and analog ICs for overall bill of materials (BOM) cost savings, higher reliability and performance, and exceptional accuracy.
The LTR2250-T18 and LTR2200-T18 are available today in TSMC and SMIC 0.18 micron technology.
