Arasan Chip Systems Reveals Strategic Mobile Initiative
- First to Offer a "Total MIPI IP Solution"
- "Arasan Driven IP Eco-system" for the Mobile Industry
A key component of Arasan's strategy is the recognition that the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI(sm)) Alliance, which will play a significant role in next generation mobile products, considers the mobile device as a whole, developing protocols that address the entire system and not just one portion of it. The MIPI specifications consists of a family of protocols addressing all aspects of the mobile system - chip to chip communication and processor to peripheral communications i.e. displays, cameras, audio, keypads and external storage devices. By developing a complete and complementary family of MIPI IP solutions, Arasan will enable mobile semiconductor developers to quickly provide a complete mobile chip set with greater features, functions and flexibility, addressing the whole system.
The other key component of Arasan's strategy is the development of a mobile IP eco-system to address the challenges mobile semiconductor developers have with system architecture, integration and just simple SoC development with IP blocks. By identifying key technologies for testing and verification and developing key partnerships for a complete system solution, Arasan will again be able to help expedite development, shorten time-to-market and provide customers a competitive edge.
``We recognize that just providing IP is not enough. We realize how vital it is to understand our customers systems, but even more so, how critical it is that our solution can easily fit into their current architecture while providing overall system improvements,'' said Kevin Yee, Vice President of Marketing at Arasan. ``Our customers expect more and this initiative reflects our commitment to them by providing a complete mobile IP solution.''
Arasan intends to roll out a series of MIPI IP cores in addition to the previously announced SLIMbus(sm) over the course of the next few months: Display Serial Interface (DSI), Camera Serial Interface (CSI), Universal Protocol (UniPro), High-speed Serial Interface (HSI), and D-PHY. Along with these products, Arasan also provides services such as architectural consultation, design customization and integration support. In addition, Arasan will be announcing partnerships around the eco-system to help mobile development.
About The MIPI Alliance
The Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Alliance is a collaboration of mobile industry leaders with the objective to define and promote open standards for interfaces to mobile allocation processors. Through these open standards, the MIPI alliance intends to speed deployment of new services to mobile users by establishing specifications for standard hardware and software interfaces to mobile application processors and encouraging the adoption of those standards throughout the industry value chain. The MIPI Alliance is intended to complement existing standards bodies with a focus on microprocessor, peripherals and software interfaces.
