Cypress Semiconductor selects Ingot Systems to provide DDR Memory Controller IP Solutions
- Ingot Systems, the premier provider of Electronic Design Solutions, and Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY), the leading supplier of specialized semiconductor products for the consumer, computation, data communications, automotive, and industrial markets today announced that Cypress has selected Ingot Systems' DDR Memory Controller for use in Cypress' consumer electronics applications. Ingot's memory controller supports Mobile DDR and Mobile SDR operation, which is essential for low power consumer applications. In addition to the multi-use license for Ingot's memory controller solution, Cypress has also engaged with Ingot Systems for design services to assist with customization and integration efforts. This combination of specialized IP and services will provide Cypress with a best in class solution. A detailed product description is located on the Ingot website at www.ingotsys.com.
“We reviewed DDR memory controllers currently on the market and determined the Ingot solution was the best fit for our application”, said Alakesh Chetia, Product Marketing Director, Data Communications Division from Cypress Semiconductor. “We needed a low power solution that also met our aggressive performance and latency goals. The Ingot solution can hit all our key requirements and can be custom-tailored to deliver the right fit for our system.”
“We are pleased that Cypress selected us to supply this key part of their next product”, said Jai Iyer, President & CEO of Ingot Systems. “More and more customers recognize our leadership in providing custom tailored high-performance solutions for Memory Controllers in even the most demanding applications.”
The Intelligent Memory Interface IP core, the IP4001, controls DDR1 and DDR2 class memories including Mobile DDR and Mobile SDR. It offers the lowest power, lowest latency and highest bandwidth in the industry. The IP4001 was created by using Ingot Systems proprietary Electronic Design Solutions technology.
Electronic Design Solutions
Traditional Design Service and IP companies take a ‘one-size fits all approach’ and typically offer a previously completed design (as an IP Core) as a solution to your design. It will require additional time and engineering effort to get it to ‘fit’ your requirements. Ingot has taken a more ‘custom tailored’ approach. We have used our extensive system design experience to create a unique infrastructure that allows us to tailor our target designs to your specific application. We call these design environments Electronic Design Solutions (EDS) Technology.
Ingot can create a memory controller IP Solution optimized for specific applications. Features and capabilities can be added or removed based on the application requirements. Low-power applications can benefit from features like automatic power down and wake-up, per-bank refresh and run time programming of mode registers. If the system requires low-latency our high-performance interface can be used. If the design has a small die size target we can provide a ‘bare bones’ solution with just the right set of features to hit functionality requirements while minimizing die area and power consumption. Many additional customization options are available and can be determined during a detailed requirements review with Ingot engineers. The new Memory Interface Solutions Guide contains several example customization options. It is available on the Ingot Systems web site at www.ingotsys.com.
