OpenTitan Ships in Chromebooks: First Production Deployment
March 6, 2026 -- Last year, Google announced that fabrication started on production of OpenTitan silicon by Nuvoton Technology Corporation. We’re excited to share that today, OpenTitan® is now shipping in commercially available Chromebooks!

This first instance of OpenTitan silicon as a product represents the culmination of 7 years of collaboration across industry, academia and the open-source hardware community.
We are extremely proud to be a pioneer of open-source security silicon development. The benefits of open source are undeniable: fast and efficient cross-organisational collaboration, retention of expertise regardless of employer, shared maintenance burdens, and high levels of academic research engagement.
And that’s not all – Google also announced that the deployment of OpenTitan in their datacenters is also underway (expected to land later this year). Additionally, the IP developed in OpenTitan is already being reused in other projects like Caliptra.
The project partners continue to press on with OpenTitan’s development into a second generation including new lattice-based PQC features with many more additions and updates to be announced. As Google said, watch this space!
