CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Amkor Technology Inc. here announced today it is acquiring privately-held Integra Technologies LLC, an independent production and test development company specializing in developing IC-test software for automated test platforms. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Integra, a Lucent Technologies spinoff, itself recently acquired a small Silicon Valley specialty test company called Test Heads. That company's senior test engineers and wireless/mixed-signal test equipment will be incorporated into the Integra facility in San Jose, and will become part of Amkor when the agreement is finalized in mid-summer. In addition, Integra operates a 20,000-sq.-ft. facility in Wichita, Kan. Integra has been aggressively expanding into test programs for mixed-signal and wireless communications devices to meet the rapidly growing industry demand. This complements Amkor's strategy to enhance its test-development capabilities to includ e the latest generation of IC packages, including RF and wireless communication devices. "Integra's engineering capabilities and experience will add significant depth to Amkor's worldwide test development team," said Bruce Freyman, corporate vice president for product operations for Amkor. "Integra's test-development sites are well aligned with Amkor's offshore production test facilities and the concentration of semiconductor companies able to seamlessly move from test program development and verification to high volume test production in our Korea and Philippine facilities." "The combination of Integra's U.S.-based test and development resources and Amkor's worldwide assembly and test expertise will provide Amkor customers with complete, end-to-end test solutions," added Joe Holt, president of Integra Technologies. Integra was formed two years ago through an internal management buyout of what had been Lucent Technologies Inc.'s Component Evaluation Technology Center, which it operated for mor e than 15 years. The existing Integra management team is expected to remain in place under Amkor.
