Seeking to further strengthen is leading position in the emerging DSP-based motor control market, Analog Devices Inc. today introduced a new family of integrated devices that utilize the company's new high-performance 16-bit ADSP219x core. ADI plans to begin sampling the first four members of the ADMCF5xx DashDSP digital motor control family late this year, and begin volume production in the first quarter of 2001. The devices will offer up to 150 mips performance, and integrate analog circuitry and flash memory. Customers will be given a range of standard product offerings that will provide for the '219x core to be user selectable from 0 to 150 mips performance at 0.4 milliamps-per-mip power consumption. The devices will integrate up to 128-Kwords of flash, as well as 10- to 14-bit ADCs, and a variety of communications peripherals. The ADMCF5xx is a compatible upgrade to ADI's ADMCF3xx and ADMCF4x families of digital control DSPs, which are based on the company's previous generation ADSP217x core. “This announcement emphasizes Analog Devices' no compromise role as the market leader in digital control DSP-based solutions,” said Phil Davies, product line director for ADI's Embedded Control Systems group, Norwood, Mass. “We offer the industry's highest performance digital control solutions, in terms of advanced mixed-signal integration, development tools, flash memory, and precision analog circuitry.” ADI has not released details of its first four offerings in the new family. The company said the devices will be priced between $2.95 and $20 each, based on integrated features, performance, and quantities.
