Dataquest study shows Semiconductor Intellectual Property market grew by 25 percent

Fremont, CA - May  8,  2002, Virage Logic Corp. (Nasdaq:VIRL), a global leader in embedded memory solutions, today announced results of a new survey showing that among the top 10 semiconductor IP vendors by revenue, Virage Logic is the fastest growing semiconductor intellectual property (IP) company in North America.

According to a recently published study conducted by Gartner Dataquest, Inc., a unit of Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) Virage Logic grew 53 percent from 2000 to 2001, double the rate of the robust semiconductor IP market growth rate. The research shows the semiconductor IP segment growing at a rate of 25 percent in 2001 compared to a 31 percent decline in growth in the semiconductor market.

"Notable sectors achieving more than 40 percent growth were networking, memory, chip infrastructure and peripherals," said Jim Tully, chief analyst, Gartner. IP revenue growth by block type shows Memory with a growth rate of nearly 65 percent.

Of the applications surveyed, the communications market led with revenues of $449 million. This parallels Virage Logic's own market breakout, with over 60 percent of the company's revenue coming from communications applications.

Indeed, Virage Logic's market leadership also reflects this trend. Gartner data shows that Virage Logic is the leader in the embedded memory IP market, with 34.2 percent of the total market worldwide.
