Shanghai's Opulan Technologies Extends Commitment to MIPS-Based(TM) SoC Design With Hard Core License

(Nasdaq: MIPS - News), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and business applications, announced today that Shanghai-based Opulan Technologies Corporation has extended its commitment to the industry-standard MIPS® architecture and cores, selecting the MIPS32® 4KEc® hard IP core for next-generation broadband access SoC designs.
Developed by MIPS Technologies' Shanghai R&D facility and targeting TSMC's 130nm process, the 4KEc hard core is a technology-specific implementation of the synthesizable 32-bit 4KEc processor. Opulan is the latest China licensee to develop MIPS-Verified(TM) designs, further establishing Greater China as MIPS' fastest growth market worldwide.

According to Infonetics Research's latest Broadband Aggregation Hardware and Subscribers report, the number of worldwide DSL subscribers are forecast to reach almost 206 million in 2007, a 23% increase over 2006, and double-digit annual growth is expected through 2010. In broadband applications, MIPS Technologies has a commanding market presence in segments including cable modems, ADSL, VDSL and WLAN.
