PUFsecurity’s PUFrt Anchors the Security of Silicon Labs’ SoC to Achieve the Industry’s First PSA Certified Level 4
Hsinchu, October 31st, 2025 –– PUFsecurity, an eMemory subsidiary and global leader in PUF-based security solutions, today announced that its PUF-based Root-of-Trust IP (PUFrt) has been successfully integrated into Silicon Labs’ latest Series 3 Secure Vault™ wireless SoCs, which have achieved the industry’s first PSA Certified Level 4 accreditation. This successful integration sets a new benchmark for secure wireless connectivity, positioning PUFsecurity and Silicon Labs as leaders in establishing Level 4 as the new standard for trusted connected devices.
PSA Certified Level 4: Raises the Bar for Chip Security by Design
PSA Certified Level 4 is the most rigorous level of the global PSA framework, requiring resilience against invasive physical attacks, side-channel leakage, and fault injection. Achieving this certification involves months of destructive lab testing, ensuring the silicon itself resists nation-state-class adversaries. Only a handful of products worldwide have attempted to reach this threshold. By embedding PUFrt, Silicon Labs’ Series 3 Secure Vault™ wireless SoCs are anchored with a strong hardware-based trust foundation that meets these stringent requirements.
PUFrt: Silicon-Anchored Root-of-Trust Enabling PSA Level 4 Security
PUFrt brings together essential security primitives including Physical Unclonable Function (PUF), secure OTP, and advanced anti-tamper protection. With these elements built directly into silicon, PUFrt enables silicon providers to accelerate their path to certification at the highest levels while ensuring robust device protection throughout the product lifecycle.
Key contributions of PUFrt to Silicon Labs’ Series 3 Secure Vault™ wireless SoCs include:
- Unclonable device identities, bound to the silicon using intrinsic randomness in manufacturing.
- Hardware-rooted keys generated directly from the chip’s PUF, to
	- secure other confidential device specific data such as cryptographic keys, device configuration, and public key root of trust
- complement Silicon Lab’s certificate generation and provisioning.

- Tamper-resistant secure storage reinforced with best-in-class OTP for long-term protection.
- Improved manufacturability and yield by streamlining provisioning and reducing risks from post-processing steps.
These capabilities make security inseparable from the silicon itself — a requirement to withstand invasive attacks and a key factor in achieving PSA Level 4 certification.
Collaboration for Trusted Next-Generation Connected Devices, Needed Now and For the Future
This milestone underscores the capability of PUFrt to support the highest level of security assurance, delivering robust protection against invasive physical attacks for next-generation connected applications across smart cities, industrial IoT, medical devices, connected energy systems, and critical infrastructure.
For customers, SoCs that are pre-validated for security not only enable faster time-to-market but also ensures readiness for emerging global regulatory mandates. With frameworks such as Europe’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) driving stronger security compliance requirements worldwide, achieving PSA Level 4 certification can help customers future-proof their design and confidently navigate evolving cybersecurity expectations.
“The adoption of PUFrt in Silicon Labs’ latest secure wireless platform is a significant milestone for PUFsecurity,” said Sam Chung, Vice President of PUFsecurity. “It demonstrates that our Hardware Root of Trust can meet the most demanding certification standards and enable trusted platforms for the evolving IoT landscape.”
Daniel Cooley, CTO at Silicon Labs, added: “Achieving PSA Certified Level 4 required the strongest root-of-trust foundation. With PUFrt, we are able to deliver SoCs that provide not only connectivity and performance, but also industry-leading protection against the most advanced physical and side-channel attacks.”
