Multiple Configurable ARC Cores Enable ITT to Build Secure Communications Devices for Government Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif. & ST. ALBANS, England -- April 28, 2008 --ARC International (LSE:ARK), the world leader in configurable multimedia subsystems and CPU/DSP processors, announced today that ITT Communications Systems signed a new license agreement for multiple members of the configurable ARC® 600 core family. ITT chose ARC because of the 600 processor family’s ability to enable a higher level of hardware security than software-only solutions.
ITT is part of a growing number of ARC customers developing silicon for a range of applications in the government, military, and aerospace markets. Recent ARC customer announcements in these categories include deployments in platforms such as command, control and communications devices, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, government services, as well as satellites and aircraft.
ITT Communications Systems is an existing ARC customer and the new agreement upgrades the company’s license to a more powerful ARC processor that will implement a heterogeneous multicore design, with each CPU configured to optimally serve its end application.
“ARC’s configurable cores are particularly well suited for security applications because of the clone-resistance a modified ARC CPU provides the designer,” said Bill Jackson, vice president of marketing at ARC International. “Furthermore, modifying our architecture and putting it into a high-security, application is a testament to the customer’s ability to change the ARC IP and have no concerns about the field reliability of his device.”
The Configurable ARC® 600 Core Family
The configurable ARC 600 core family delivers the most power- and area-efficient 32-bit CPU and DSP processors in its performance class in a unified RISC architecture. All ARC licensees create their processor cores using ARC’s patented ARChitect processor configurator, thus each design is unique. For high-security applications, creating instructions known only to a customer’s SoC designers and programmers provides a layer of security not available with fixed instruction set processors. Configuring a CPU to his unique application also allows the designer to remove unneeded functionality to reduce die size and to create custom instructions and IP Blocks to further optimize power consumption.
