MIPI Alliance Announces the Formation of a New Birds of a Feather Group to Investigate Software Integration of Hardware Devices
PISCATAWAY, NJ, September 4, 2013 - The MIPI®Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, is pleased to announce the establishment of a Software Birds of a Feather (BoF) Group that will explore what the organization can do to support software and management of interfaces inside the mobile terminal at the system design level. Ramin Neshati, engineering manager, I/O Standards and Enabling at Intel Corporation has been named by the MIPI Alliance Board as Chairman of the Software BoF group.
âI look forward to engaging with the mobile hardware and software communities to investigate the potential role MIPI Alliance can play in making the software-hardware interface solutions easier to use for both communities,â said Neshati.
The BoF will discuss issues related to mobile system software, device integration and management of hardware interfaces, among other topics. The Software BoF will explore possibilities to bridge the gap between the worlds of software and hardware in ways that simplify life for component designers and system integrators.
âThe Software BoF is an opportunity to discuss far-reaching questions and identify whether MIPI has a possible role in solving these problems in the future,â said Joel Huloux, Chairman of MIPI Alliance. âThe Software BoF will investigate whether there are solutions that can address more of the software layers and help Microsoft, Apple, Google, BlackBerry and other mobile OS vendors simplify integrating hardware components with system software.â
MIPI Alliance forms BoF groups to engage a broader community of interested parties to discuss topic areas for possible further development. The Software BoF will be comprised of software engineers, system architects, technical marketing people and product managers, who will collaboratively share ideas to evaluate the Allianceâs role to support its specifications with software components.
The Software BoF will be comprised of both MIPI Alliance members and non-members, and is actively seeking additional participants. Teleconferences are planned to take place in advance of the groupâs first face-to-face meeting in conjunction with the Allianceâs all member meeting in Toronto October 7-11.
