MILPITAS, Calif. --LSI Logic Corp. has licensed its ZSP400 DSP architecture to Brecis Communications, a fabless semiconductor company in San Jose. The ZSP400 provides 400 million multiply/accumulate operations per second with a clock rate of 200 MHz. The five-stage pipeline architecture was developed by ZSP Inc., which was acquired by LSI Logic last year (see May 21 story). "This agreement with Brecis is further evidence of the strength of the ZSP open architecture model in the emerging communications market," declared Giuseppe Staffaroni, vice president and general manager of the Communications Products Division at LSI Logic. Analyst Will Strauss of Forward Concepts in Tempe, Ariz., said the licensing agreement "is an indication of ZSP's growing impact on the industry, as well as LSI Logic's willingness to forge the right partnerships to help advance ZSP's position in t he market." LSI also announced the creation of the ZSP Software Developer's Forum, an attempt to further establish the architecture through collaboration with third-party software vendors. The first three members of the forum are Hellosoft, VoCAL Technologies, and White Eagle Systems Technology, all of which offer communications software libraries. Staffaroni said participants in the forum will receive exclusive access to LSI's engineering and design teams, software programming tools, sales leads, and product promotions. "By initiating the ZSP Software Developer's Forum, LSI Logic is reinforcing its commitment to significantly increasing the number and quality of communications-oriented product offerings that take advantage of the ZSP core architecture," he said.
