Infineon Enables Accton's New Portable WLAN VoIP Gateway
Munich, Germany and Taipei, Taiwan – January 23, 2006 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of communication ICs, today announced that its WildPass™ WLAN network processor system-on-chip (SoC) has been selected by Accton Technology Corporation, the Taiwan-based premier provider of networking and communications solutions. The WildPass SoC enables Accton’s VG2211i secure, portable wireless VoIP gateway. The gateway is ideally suited as a portable WLAN access point and VoIP router, meeting the increased mobility requirements of end-users, and can also be used to seamlessly and economically add WLAN and VoIP capabilities to existing broadband connections.
According to market research firm Point Topic, the number of broadband connections worldwide topped 205 million at the end of 2005, while research firm Infonetics indicates that the WLAN gateway market for broadband users is expected to grow between 2006 and 2008 by nearly 50 percent to around 37 million units.
The Accton VG2211i gateway enabled by Infineon’s WildPass SoC can be easily plugged into a broadband connection and provide WLAN connectivity for such applications as home networking and office access points. In addition, existing analog telephones can be connected to the VG2211i for making Voice over IP (VoIP) calls, allowing end-users to benefit from services such as a single phone number worldwide and lower calling rates.

The WildPass SoC is part of Infineon’s advanced CPE (customer premises equipment) solutions portfolio, which also includes Amazon (ADSL2+), VINAX-CPE (VDSL 2), VINETIC (VoIP processor), ADM5120 (network processor) and a number of Ethernet switch and PHY devices. It can be seamlessly integrated into a wide variety of network applications, such as VoIP access points, broadband routers and gateways, as well as media and print servers.
The multiple interfaces of the WildPass SoC include: PCM and SPI for Voice-over-IP applications; MII for connecting to broadband uplink technologies (such as xDSL, fiber or cable-modem); SDRAM and Flash for external memory devices; and USB 2.0 host. It allows numerous PCs or Internet-enabled devices (video-on-demand media servers, gaming consoles, Personal Media Gateways, etc.) in a network to access the Internet at the same time, at guaranteed full wired speeds for both LAN and WAN connections. The WildPass SoC also integrates the wireless security function specified in the 802.11i standard, and is fully compliant with WPA and WPA2 certifications.
