Impinj Embedded Nonvolatile Memory Shipments Surpass 100 Million Units
SEATTLE, Wash., January 26, 2006 – Impinj, Inc., the fabless semiconductor company whose patented Self-Adaptive Silicon® technology enables its two business lines: high performance radio frequency identification (RFID) products and semiconductor intellectual property (IP), today announced that its multiple-times programmable (MTP) nonvolatile memory (NVM) IP cores have delivered enhanced functionality, security and performance while reducing cost in over 100 million semiconductor chips worldwide.
Designed to provide small bit-count NVM for rapidly growing markets such as RF, LCD driver, secure media, consumer microcontroller, and power management, Impinj’s leading AEON® family of NVM IP products include AEON/MTP and the recently announced AEON/HV memory, the world’s first embedded, rewriteable NVM for 5V CMOS processes. All NVM IP cores from Impinj run in standard logic CMOS and are on-chip rewriteable up to 100,000 times.
Impinj’s suite of NVM products provide compelling alternatives to older memory and fuse technologies as evidenced by the high-volume adoption of Impinj’s IP cores by leading semiconductor companies, including Dragonchip, ITRI, National Semiconductor, Primarion, Spatialight, and ZMD. Available at the world’s leading foundries, Impinj’s NVM adds value in several ways. For example, Impinj IP can store trim data for on-chip analog components, for encryption keys and unique identification numbers and for chip or system configuration. Impinj’s NVM cores are in volume production at 0.18um and 0.25um process nodes with 0.13um in qualification.
“There’s a significant trend within the semiconductor industry for higher levels of IP integration, exemplified by the growing demand for a viable replacement for off-chip memory,” said Jordan Selburn, analyst with iSuppli. “Embedded NVM available in standard processes, for example, can replace discrete EEPROM technology, thus reducing system-chip development costs and improving time-to-market for many electronic products.”

“We are delighted that our customers have had this much success using our memory IP,” said Larry Morrell, Impinj Vice President of IP Products. “Volume production is the ultimate metric in proving the value and reliability of semiconductor IP, and shipping 100 million units demonstrates that our NVM technology rates highly in both measures.”
Impinj will enable future adoption of its AEON® products through its “Try It Now” program to be announced next week.
