Hantro Enables Multimedia Applications on Freescale's i.MX31 applications processor, i.300 and MXC cellular platforms

July 26th, 2006 -- Shortening product life cycles, longer use periods, smaller form factors and higher quality video present significant design challenges to wireless device manufacturers. Hantro, the leading provider of video technology for mobile handsets, today announced immediate availability of its 8300 Multi-Media Engine for Freescale’s i.MX21, i.MX31, MXC300-30, and i.300 application development suites. The engine is well suited for wireless device manufacturers who base their designs on Freescale’s mobile entertainment solutions. Bringing immediate benefits through significant development cost and time-to-market savings, 8300 MME enables all genres of multimedia applications including mobile TV, camcorder, and portable media player. “Hantro teamed up with Freescale to build the most optimal software and hardware architecture for multimedia.” said Sami Niska, VP of business development and partnering at Hantro. “By accelerating the most complex functions in dedicated hardware blocks, Freescale’s i.MX31, MXC300-30 and i.300 together with our 8300 MME, enable video performance comparable to desktop PCs, but with significant power consumption savings.”
Readily available for leading mobile operating systems are additional video and audio formats such as: VC-1, H.264/AVC and HE AAC v.2.0. Image enhancing technologies such as camera stabilisation are available as well to license as options. Delivering maximum performance and managing all of the complexities of multimedia application development, 8300 MME provides device manufacturers with a high level application programming interface to enable fast and simple integration with their GUI.
