Arasan Claims Worldwide Dominance in Design Wins For Flash Memory Card Interface IP
With Over 250 Chip Licensees, Arasan Flash Memory Card Interface IP Has Shipped in Over a Billion SoC Chips Worldwide
San Jose, California - November 12, 2009 - Arasan Chip Systems today announced its dominant position as a provider of Flash Memory Card Interface IP for the growing consumer and portable electronics market. Since its formation in 2000, the company's IP has shipped in over a billion system-on-chip (SOC) components found in mobile phones, digital audio players, car navigation systems, electronic books, and others. An active member and participant in the SD (Secure Digital), CF (CompactFlash), MMC (Multimedia Card), Memory Stick, ONFI (Open NAND Flash Interface), and MIPI® (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) Associations, Arasan's IP has been developed with a comprehensive understanding of each interface specification. This explains why Arasan's IP has over 250 licensees including wide adoption by Tier 1 OEMs and Fabless semiconductor design houses. Arasan's list of licensees provides credence for the claim http://www.arasan.com/customers/customer.php.
Scottsdale, Arizona market research firm In-Stat expects worldwide NAND flash revenues to reach $61 billion by 2021 growing at a compound annual growth rate of 29.7 percent from 2007 to 2012. In-Stat declared that the top four applications for NAND flash will remain MP3 players and PMPs, mobile handsets, after-market cards, and USB Flash Drives, collectively with a combined market share of more than 80 percent over the next couple of years. Ram Gopalan, Arasan's Senior Director of Marketing stated, "with IP offerings spanning every version of each major flash memory interface specification that can be found in consumer devices as diverse as mobile phone and video game console like the Nintendo Wii to the latest generation netbooks, Arasan continues to ride this high-growth flash memory wave ahead of its competitors."
"Arasan's leadership has resulted from several factors," said Prakash Kamath, Vice President of Engineering at Arasan. "One factor is being consistently first to market with next generation interface IP for each interface standard and its derivatives. Being first immediately after a standard is released provides a competitive advantage to our customers. Another factor is the number of successful designs that are shipping with Arasan's IP-nothing is more assuring to SoC designers than IP that has been shipping in production silicon for over five years. A third factor is providing a complete solution: RTL source code for IP core, synthesis scripts, verification IP, test environment and software stacks. Only by providing all of these elements will a licensee be able to successfully incorporate an IP block into his larger SoC."
