Faraday Technology Offers Improv Systems' Pre-Configured Application Processor Cores
Improv's popular cores for DSP, media and voice applications available as part of Faraday's custom chip offering
Hsinchu, Taiwan and Sunnyvale, California -- Aug.30, 2006 -- Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035), a leading ASIC and Silicon IP provider, and Improv Systems, a leading supplier of DSP-based silicon IP, today jointly announced the availability of Improv's pre-configured application processor cores based on Improv's high-performance Jazz™ DSP platform . The high-performance, low-power solutions are now available as “off-the-shelf” from Faraday for fast, efficient integration as part of Faraday's custom chip design service offering.
Based on Improv's popular Jazz™ processing platform, the pre-configured, implementation-ready application processor cores require no programming, customization or configuration by customers. The products include plug-and-play cores and complete application software and come in a variety of options for low-power, high-performance and application-specific requirements. The cores come in three families: Jazz DSP™ for general-purpose DSP processing, Jazz Media™, for multimedia processing and Jazz Voice™ for Voice-over-IP. The pre-configured versions offer Faraday customers with the shortest time to market and more flexibility by using the highly-efficient and powerful capabilities contained within the Improv solution. Still available optionally as configurable cores for additional customization or custom design requirements, the new pre-configured versions allow designers to quickly integrate production-proven performance and functionality into their complex SoCs with minimal intervention or programming required.
“Faraday and Improv's entering into partnership has drawn lots of attention in market since announced this July, and both parties' customers will gradually benefit from the cooperation,” said George Hwang, Vice President of Faraday. “Improv's Jazz Media and Jazz Voice families, along with the implementation ready Jazz DSP platform, offer Faraday customers with a variety of options for a wide range of technology and market requirements.”
“The ability for Faraday to deliver and support our pre-configured solutions expands our market reach and gives more customers access to our technology. This is especially important in markets such as Taiwan and China where Faraday has a proven track record,” said Bryan Greear, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Improv. “With our new silicon-ready pre-configured solutions, customers still get all the performance, low power and feature-rich capabilities of our configurable platforms, plus the support of a robust software development tool suite.”
The Improv Jazz application processor cores are designed for use as a black box implementation featuring complete application software and processors with application-specific instructions for their target applications. The cores contain one or more Jazz processors that work together with the optimized application software to provide high levels of performance and offload CPU overhead that typically hinders performance in consumer and telecom applications.
