Visible Light Communication Technology Shines in China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair 2017
June 14, 2017 -- China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair 2017 was held in Guangzhou from May 26th to 27th, 2017. The fair, jointly organized by China Association for Science and Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Chinese Academy of Engineering, The Central Committee of the Jiu San (Sept. 3rd) Society, People’s Government of Guangdong Province, The People’s Government of Guangzhou, is a high-end, international and industrial event for innovation and entrepreneurship, and has gradually become an important window and platform to promote national innovation and entrepreneurship achievements transformation. With the theme of “Innovation in Guangzhou with win-win cooperation”, the fair 2017 showcased about 1300 innovation and entrepreneurship projects and had over 20 special sessions to promote outstanding projects.
During the fair, demonstration of new generation of information technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and biomedicine industries did great performance. Jetcomm Technology Ltd, founded by Dr. C. Patrick Yue from HKUST, showcased its visible light communication technology, better known as VLC, utilizing visible light as a communication medium, which attracted visitors’ attentions. Guangzhou TV station’s report could be found on http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjc5NTYzNDczMg==.html
Jetcomm Technology’s VLC technology can carry out large data collection, such as customer information, hotspot location, real-time recording, and product promotion, and has the advantages of rapid transmission, cloud control, security, augmented reality, receiving sensitivity, intelligent control. Its core technology is to use LED lightening and advertising light boxes transforming useful information to smart phones. Jetcomm Technology’s intelligent LED system, integrated visible light communication with visible light indoor positioning, Wifi connection and lightening, which can be widely used in shopping malls, accurate advertising push, underground parking lot navigation, airport navigation, coal mine personnel positioning, nuclear power plant positioning, voice navigation and indoor exhibition guide. Brite and SMIC, as its partners, provide chip solution for its intelligent LED system.
Dr. C. Patrick Yue, Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the founder of Jetcomm Technology, became a board member of Brite Semiconductor in May, 2015 and built up a bridge for Jetcomm and Brite. The cooperation on IoT SoC design has pushed Brite’s design service to a high level and Brite’s mature design service capability provides strong technical support for Jetcomm’s technology development. Brite and Jetcomm believe that on the basis of mutual benefit cooperation, the two companies will make a better future.

HKUST PhD student Babar Hussain demonstrated VLC Technology to visitors.
