Artisan Libraries Selected by Infineon Technologies for Next Generation eDRAM Process Technologies
Artisan's 0.17-Micron Process Libraries Aid Implementation of System-on-a-Chip Designs
SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 4, 1999 - Artisan Components Inc. (Nasdaq:ARTI) today announced that it has been selected by Infineon Technologies Corporation, formerly Siemens Microelectronics, Inc., for its 0.17-micron technology physical IP products. Under terms of a contract agreement, Infineon Technologies will purchase several Artisan standard cell and I/O products for its 0.17-, embedded DRAM (eDRAM) process technologies. Additionally, the company will also purchase register file generators and custom I/Os to update and enhance previously purchased Artisan libraries for its 0.20- and 0.24-micron processes.
Artisan libraries will help enable Infineon Technologies' customers, among other things, to implement system-on-a-chip ICs. According to Infineon Technologies, eDRAM has become a key technology for SOC ICs by lowering chip counts, reducing power consumption and boosting performance compared to designs using off-chip discrete DRAM devices.
"Our embedded DRAM is the defacto standard and choosing the right library vendor is critical to maintaining our leadership position," said Doris Keitel-Schulz, senior manager of the customer specific logic group inside the memory product division of Infineon Technologies. "Artisan continues to meet our goal of high-quality, high-performance libraries that allow designers to maximize the capabilities of our eDRAM process. Together we provide a powerful solution to meet stringent design requirements."
In commenting about the contract, Mark Templeton, president and CEO of Artisan Components, stated, "We are gratified that Infineon Technologies, the undisputed leader in eDRAM, has chosen us once again for our library solutions. The Artisan charter is to provide our partners with quality physical IP products so that customers may achieve the full potential from our partners' semiconductor processes and the subsequent time to market benefits."
Availability
Library products for the 0.20- and 0.24-micron processes are available now. Products for the 0.17-micron process will be available in Q4'99.
