Airbee and ZMD Team to Deliver 900 MHz ZigBee Technology
– Airbee Wireless (OTC Other: ABEW) today announced that it has executed a license agreement with Zentrum Mikroelektronik Dresden AG (“ZMD”), to provide ZigBeeTM compliant and ZigBee based network protocol stacks (ZNS & ZNS Lite). Integrators and OEMs deploying ZigBee wireless sensor networks will now have access to the industry-leading ZMD44102 radio at 900 MHz paired with the leading microcontroller, the TI MSP430–1612. This teaming will offer a ready-made platform for integrators and OEMs looking for turnkey 900 MHz ZigBee solutions requiring extended range and robust performance.
Airbee and ZMD are integrating the Airbee-ZigBee Network Software (ZNS) stack with ZMD’s ZMD44102 transceiver supporting the 868.3MHz (Europe) and 902MHz to 928MHz (Americas) license free bands. To reduce time-to-market, a complete reference design with the TI MSP430-1612 ultra-low power microcontrollers will be integrated.
“As ZigBee technology takes off throughout the world, application developers will need the extended range performance of 900 MHz solutions. By teaming with ZMD, we are truly moving globally, said Raj Sundarsesan, CEO for Airbee Wireless, Inc.
“The popularity of ZigBee and Airbee’s experience with TI’s MSP430 microcontrollers and customer demand, made it important for us to work with Airbee, to offer 900 MHz ZigBee-compliant platforms,” said Klaus Mueller, Vice President Wireless Sensor Networks for ZMD. "Current and future ZigBee users can now test and compare 900 MHz vs. 2.4 GHz solutions. By leveraging our experience with RF and sensor semiconductors, we are offering a ZigBee solution that can support the rapidly growing ZigBee technology market as well as customer specific applications.”
