VOCAL Provides Its AES-128 for DTCP Using Industry-Standard Microprocessors
VOCAL Achieves Drop-In AES-128 Module for Digital Transmission Content Protocol on an Industry-Standard Microprocessor
BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- VOCAL Technologies, Ltd., a leading developer of software and hardware solution for the communications industry, announces the availability of its AES-128 as a processor extension for Digital Transmission Content Protocol (DTCP).
DTCP is a protocol that uses the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EC-DSA) for authentication and Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (EC-DH) algorithm for key exchange. Once a session-key has been established, the 128-bit key is used with the AES base cipher to encrypt the content that will be transmitted.
VOCAL's Cryptography Engine, an AES hardware core wrapped by a RISC processor, is a perfect solution for DTCP. The programmable processor core is ideal for handling the encryption protocol (authentication, key exchange, packet inspection, control code, and other RISC type operations) while the AES fixed hardware core encrypts/decrypts the streaming payload.
The data rate for MPEG2 compressed video is ~10 Mbps, using a pure software solution requires around 65 MIPS to decrypt the MPEG2-stream. With the VOCAL AES core solution, the decryption can be done in less than 1 MIP. This scales to 1.28 Gbps per 100 MHz processing power and even permits multi-channel systems. Current set-top boxes using a standard microprocessor core can upgrade their solution to include DTCP with a simple drop in solution.
Advantages of VOCAL's solution include flexibility through the ability to program and configure the DTCP solution, engineering experience and the expertise needed to integrate individual modules to make a complete low cost solution.
VOCAL invites you to visit its booth at WiFi-Planet Show in San Jose on Dec 3rd.
