TransChip and CEVA Collaborate to Create Highly Compact Video Streaming Solution for Multimedia Applications

Collaboration Between Companies Produces High Quality Imaging and MPEG-4 Encoding for Multimedia Without Hardware Acceleration

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL and SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 9, 2005 - TransChip Inc., a leading developer of integrated camera solutions for camera phones, and CEVA, Inc. (Nasdaq NM:CEVA - News) (London:CVA.L - News), the leading licensor of digital signal processor (DSP) cores and communications solutions to the semiconductor industry, announced today a highly compact reference design for MPEG-4 video encoding, decoding and streaming of high quality images using TransChip's TC5747 VGA CMOS sensor and CEVA's CEVA-TeakLite™ DSP core. TransChip is a member of CEVA's Partner Program, CEVAnet™.

TransChip's TC5747 outputs an uncompressed video stream in YUV format at up to 30 frames per second. The video frames are optimized to the lighting conditions using TC5747's embedded image signal processor. The CEVA-TeakLite DSP core controls the TC5747 camera by adjusting the brightness, saturation, hue, sharpness and contrast of the output stream, before encoding it using MPEG4. The sensor offers OEMs and ASSPs a compact, low-power, high quality, complete video application that does not require the use of external accelerators. TransChip imagers are primarily designed for camera phones. The imagers also provide a solution for other applications where miniature, low power, high quality cameras are required, such as security and communications. CEVA's video module targets multiple markets including multimedia, communications, automotive and security.

"We have further proven the ability of our cutting-edge DSP technologies in multimedia processing," said Erez Bar-Niv, CTO, CEVA. "Key consumer markets require compact, efficient video solutions for diverse applications. The combination of excellent performance from our CEVA-TeakLite DSP core and exceptional picture quality and output from TransChip's camera module presents a compelling value proposition for OEMs looking for a low-cost, low-power but high quality MPEG4 processing solution for mobile multimedia devices."

"TransChip is delighted with the rapid integration of our CMOS imager to a complete video reference design," explained Arie Gavriely, vice president of technical marketing at TransChip. "Offering the world's first fully programmable camera module in collaboration with CEVA, has created a valuable solution for the streaming multimedia market."

TransChip's solutions offer OEMs a new level of flexibility. The sensor chip is fully programmable, enabling vendors to customize the design and make simple future modifications and improvements in image processing algorithms. The interfaces are flexible allowing easy integration into reference designs without the need for additional interface chips. The solution includes an embedded image signal processor (ISP), which provides customers with a simple and cost-effective approach for digital image enhancements, such as automatic exposure and automatic color balance.

The CEVA-TeakLite core is a 16-bit, fixed-point, general-purpose DSP core. It is designed for low-power, low-voltage, high-speed DSP applications. The core is an ideal solution for speech and audio processing, wireless communication (GSM, CDMA, TDMA, EDGE, GPRS, 3G) modems, telecommunication systems, disk-drive controllers, and various embedded control applications. It is currently CEVA's most-deployed core and an ecosystem of over 35 CEVA partners build applications around the DSP core.
