Carbon Design Systems Unleashes Latest Version of SoC Designer
Integrates SoC Designer with Carbon Model Studio for Tightly Coupled Flow, Complete System Validation Solution
ACTON, Mass. -- November 3, 2008 -- Carbon Design Systems™ today began volume shipments of SoC Designer, the industry’s most widely-used cycle-accurate tool for creating and analyzing system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
Carbon assumed development, support and sales of SoC Designer from ARM® in July, and now offers a complete system validation solution with cycle-accurate system modeling, cycle-optimized platform creation, execution and analysis, and cycle-accurate model kits for ARM intellectual property (IP).
“Customer feedback on Carbon’s acquisition of SoC Designer has been positive and reinforces our extensive experience providing cycle-level virtual platform solutions,” says Rick Lucier, Carbon’s chief executive officer. “Having direct responsibility for SoC Designer allows us to provide a complete solution for architectural analysis, firmware and driver development and optimization, and system integration and debug.”
The new release includes usability, analysis and integration enhancements designed to increase the coupling between SoC Designer and Model Studio. Added features extend the ability to feed results into other environments. New transaction and signal dumping support enhance debug integrations and offer a path to capture data streams for reuse as block-level test drivers. In addition, standard and debug versions of the executables have been combined into a single executable, reducing disk use and providing easier access.
The Transition from ARM to Carbon
Simon Yoon, director of the SoC Designer R&D team, adds: “Since the acquisition, the development teams have worked closely together to bring new functionality to our tool suite without interruption. Our combined engineering organization has unmatched experience in model generation and virtual platform development. This enables us to provide a unique integrated solution for architectural analysis and pre-silicon hardware/software integration. The transition of the SoC Designer team has gone so smoothly that we are putting out the first release of the integrated tool within three months of starting joint development.”
Pricing and Availability
The latest version of SoC Designer is shipping now, and is available for platforms running Linux and Windows. Pricing starts at $38,500.
