SafeNet Makes Available New, Stronger Industry Standard Algorithm

SHA-256 Hashing Algorithms Are Used in SafeNet's Networking Solutions for More Secure Digital Signatures, VPNs, and Online Transactions

BALTIMORE, Maryland - April 4, 2005

- SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFNT), setting the standard for information security, announced today the availability of several networking solutions products which include the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) SHA-256 Secure Hashing Algorithm. This algorithm is the next generation answer beyond SHA-1 for data protection.

"As companies assess recent concerns with the security of SHA-1, SafeNet has already implemented the stronger SHA-256 algorithms into many of our products," said Henk Pruim, Vice President and General Manager for SafeNet's OEM/Networking Business Unit. "Companies wishing to upgrade their security for digital signatures, password verification, online transactions and VPN systems can now do so with our networking solutions."

The SHA-256 algorithms are available today to OEM customers using SafeNet's industry leading QuickSec Security Toolkits as well as SafeNet's silicon-proven SafeXcel IP products for Semiconductor OEMs. In addition, all of SafeNet's Luna hardware security appliances and PCI cards include SHA-256 hashing algorithms.

Hashing algorithms are a crucial component of secure network solutions. They take information and translate it in strings of ones and zeros, or bits, creating a unique "fingerprint" of a file. These algorithms are used for digital signatures, password verification, and public key infrastructures to assure that data has not been tampered with in transit.

SafeNet offers OEMs a wide range of security product choices to build advanced networking solutions, including intellectual property and chips for hardware acceleration as well as upper layer APIs, protocol stacks, and software toolkits. SafeNet's proven IP designs have been deployed in millions of consumer and enterprise systems around the world. They are a key component of SafeNet's fully integrated security systems for VPN, Firewall, and Intrusion Prevention solutions.
