PLDA Announces Multiple Corporate-Wide Licenses for their XpressSWITCH PCIe 4.0 Switch IP
Announcement highlights a growing trend for designers to move from ASSP to PCIe-embedded Switch IPs in their chip designs
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 27, 2017 -- PLDA, the industry leader in PCI Express® interface IP solutions, today announced a series of major licenses for their XpressSWITCH™ PCIe switch IP, confirming the expansion of PCIe-embedded switches. These licenses enable several major SoC and system vendors to solve their cost, flexibility, integration, and end-of-life issues by integrating a PLDA sub-system IP instead of an off-the-shelf ASSP.
PLDA’s XpressSWITCH is the industry’s first PCI-SIG®-compliant embedded switch IP and offers a customizable, multiport PCIe switch IP designed for ASIC and FPGA that enables the connection of one upstream port and multiple embedded or external downstream ports. Compared to a classic switch ASSP, PLDA’s new PCIe switch technology delivers a more flexible architecture. By incorporating PLDA’s XpressSWITCH IP, designers can use fewer PHYs/chips and dramatically reduce power budget, latency, and bill-of-material costs. Additionally, the use of an innovative PCIe switch like PLDA’s XpressSWITCH IP offers a flexible upgrade path for future innovation, reducing the risk of obsolescence.
According to Arnaud Schleich, CEO of PLDA, “With the recent important acquisition of XpressSWITCH IP licenses by the leading fabless semiconductor MediaTek Inc., this is the most impressive series of corporate licensing deals to date.” Arnaud Schleich adds, “This announcement highlights an important trend of replacing PCIe switch ASSPs with sub-system IPs to increase flexibility and reduce cost and power budgets.”
