Oki Semiconductor and Integration Associates Announce Industry's First Commercially Available ARM7-Based ZigBee Solution
New Solution Incorporates Oki's Single Chip IEEE802.15.4 MAC/PHY Device With Integration's CompX's ZigBee Stack Ported to Oki's ML67Q4050/60 ARM7 Microcontroller Series.
The platform is based on Oki's ML7065 radio and Oki's ML67Q4051 MCU for the ZigBee stack and application code. The ML7065 is a 2.4 GHz IEEE802.15.4 complete full-function low-power single chip radio solution with an embedded 802.15.4 MAC/PHY that is ideal for ZigBee based products designed for Industrial, Commercial, Medical and home applications such as automatic metering, lighting automation, and HVAC systems. The ML67Q4051 is a member of the ML67Q4050/4060 series of ARM7-based Advantage Microcontrollers. The series is very versatile, with a unique combination of communications support, including Multi-Master I2C, SPI, I2S, and 9-bit UARTs enabling communications with legacy 8-bit MCU devices. The 4050 series adds an external bus or 68 GPIO pins.
Integration's CompX's ZigBee stack was ported to Oki's modular Microcontroller Evaluation Kit (AME-51) ARM evaluation platform. Oki's AME-51 is the lowest priced 'complete-in-one-box' ARM-based evaluation solution in the industry. The AME-51 kit enables product designers to easily integrate Oki's 4060 Series -- The World's Smallest ARM -- and 4050 Series MCUs into their designs. Based on ARM's 32-bit architecture, Oki's AME-51 Kit provides designers with a complete and flexible 'plug and play' evaluation environment that is easy to use. This evaluation kit offers designers unique features to shorten the time to market for their products.
Commenting on today's announcement, Michael Gershowitz, director of Product Marketing, Oki Semiconductor, said, "We are extremely pleased that IAI has provided a highly effective full-featured ZigBee stack solution with such a small memory footprint on Oki's ARM MCUs. This is an enabler for new applications that require the processing capability of ARM and the connectivity of ZigBee, especially for security and control applications, which are strategic focus market areas for Oki."
Target Market and Applications
The jointly developed ZigBee Solution from Oki and IAI is targeted to the following markets and applications:
- Industrial sensor and control networks
- Commercial security and access control systems
- Equipment diagnostics and asset tracking
- Medical patient monitoring equipment wireless upgrades
- Home automation and security systems
Rafi Fried, general manager for Wireless at Integration stated, "Integration is extremely excited to announce with Oki, the worlds first commercially available ZigBee stack running on an ARM processor. Developing a port of the stack to the ARM processor will enable mainstream applications such as cell phones to partake in the home automation growth market."
Key Features- ZigBee support on Oki's ARM7TDMI based MCUs
- Industry standard development tool support for the ARM processor
- ZigBee Stack requires ~44KB of Flash for an end device and ~60KB of
- Flash for a Coordinator. Either build utilizes ~10KB of RAM
- IAI's time tested and multi-platform certified ZigBee software
