LSI Logic Licenses New ARM11 Cores
Highest performance 32-bit synthesizeable microprocessor cores provides ideal processing power for data-intensive SoC applications
MILPITAS, CALIF. and CAMBRIDGE, UK â Oct. 15, 2002 â LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE:LSI) and ARM [(LSE:ARM) (Nasdaq:ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, today announced that LSI Logic has licensed the new ARM1136J-S⢠core and the ARM1136JF-S⢠core for use in system-on-chip (SoC) designs for the communications, consumer and storage markets. Announced yesterday, the new cores are ARM's first offering based on the company's ARM11⢠microarchitecture and are the fastest synthesizable microprocessor cores in the market providing coverage to applications requiring the 400MHz to 600MHz range of performance. (See separate press releaseâ¦ARM Sets Performance Standard with Two New ARM11 Coresâ¦Oct. 14, 2002). LSI Logic is initially implementing the ARM1136 cores into its Gflx⢠0.11 micron (drawn) high-performance process technology.
"LSI Logic chose the new ARM11 cores for their innovative architectural features such as, deep 8-stage pipeline, multiple wide system interfaces, low interrupt latency and unaligned access support," said Rafi Kedem, senior director of the processor cores technology group at LSI Logic. "These provide an ideal mix of features for a broad range of data-intensive and high-performance applications such as enterprise switches, next-generations gateways, RAID and SAN controllers, and office-automation devices."
"LSI Logic is a market leader in delivering high-complexity and high-performance SoCs and is one of our most active Partners providing ARM core-based solutions to the networking, storage and consumer markets," said Mike Inglis, executive vice president of Marketing at ARM. "We appreciate LSI Logic's ongoing commitment to the ARM architecture by being a lead Partner to license the new ARM1136 cores."
In addition to the newly-licensed ARM1136FJ-S and ARM1136J-S cores, LSI Logic offers the ARM1026EJ-S⢠core, the ARM926EJ-S⢠core, the ARM946E-S⢠core, the ARM966E-S⢠core, the ARM7EJ-S⢠core, and the ARM7TDMI-S⢠core. LSI Logic also offers a broad range of processor peripherals, including AMBA® Design Kit (ADK) and all of the ARM PrimeCell® peripherals, a complete family of processor subsystem reference designs, processor based platform and 'rapid prototyping' solutions as well as worldwide processor integration support for customers' SoC design needs.
