Jennic Joins the RapidIO Trade Association
SHEFFIELD, UK – 16th February 2004 - Jennic, a leading supplier of system-level Intellectual Property (IP) cores and silicon design services, today announced that it has joined the RapidIO Trade Association. The RapidIO Architecture is an open standard that provides a highly efficient, point-to-point, packet switched interconnect that is primarily intended for use in embedded processing applications within networking equipment such as 3G wireless basestations.
It is Jennic's intention to offer a product line of RapidIO Interface solutions, which will be supplied as fully integrated and verified Intellectual Property (IP) blocks to the designers of ASICs and ASSPs. It is anticipated that the availability of this IP will significantly contribute to the adoption of the RapidIO Architecture within the communications industry.
Jennic’s first product, a Serial RapidIO Generic Endpoint to AHB Bridge, is based on a generic modular architecture into which a variety of blocks can be integrated, creating a range of products to address different applications. This strategy will substantially reduce customers’ time to market and risk, whilst providing solutions that precisely address their specific requirements.
"By taking an active role in standards bodies, such as the RapidIO Trade Association, Jennic is able to ensure that the needs of our customers are adequately covered in the standards they create." , said Frank Newcombe, manager of the Optical Networks product line at Jennic. "It also provides the opportunity to engage in joint activities with other vendors, such as ensuring compliance and interoperability between different solutions."
