Innoveda to Help IBM Customers be First to Market With PowerPC 440-Based Systems On Chip

MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2001-- Innoveda, Inc. (Nasdaq:INOV), a leading provider of innovative software and services for the design of advanced electronic products, today announced it will enhance its V-CPU(TM) hardware/software co-verification tool with a processor support package for the IBM® PowerPC® 440 core. This processor support package will be linked with VxSim(TM), a complete prototyping and simulation tool from Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND) that is currently available with V-CPU for early deployment of a System-on-Chip (SoC) HW/SW co-verification solution.

Through an agreement with Endeavor Intertech, Hillsboro, Ore., Innoveda will integrate Endeavor's PowerPC 440 bus interface models with V-CPU. The agreement also applies to the IBM PowerPC 405 core. The processor support package is scheduled to be available this month, priced at $10,000 in the United States.

The PowerPC 440 is IBM's latest high-performance CPU core for SoC applications, providing up to 1000 DMIPS with a superscalar design, while dissipating less than 2 Watts of power.

Puts Innoveda in Forefront

According to Steven D. Anderson, product marketing manager at Innoveda, ``Availability of this support package will position Innoveda as the first company to offer a solution for IBM 440 co-verification. IBM customers developing embedded SoCs using the IBM PowerPC 440 core will be able get a head start on HW/SW design and integration using the V-CPU tool, and deliver their end-products faster.''

Early Solution

``We have been working closely with Innoveda to provide developers with an integrated set of tools to develop and test embedded applications,'' said Caroline Yao, group manager of partner solutions for Wind River. ``Wind River's VxSim is a comprehensive prototyping and simulation tool for Tornado®/VxWorks® applications. By combining this technology with Innoveda's V-CPU tool, customers have an excellent early system prototyper to quickly develop reliable applications.''

Ideal Tool

According to David N. Glass, president of Endeavor Intertech, ``We partnered with Innoveda because V-CPU is uniquely suited to serve PowerPC 440 system-level designers and the software development community interested in validating their applications prior to silicon. The resulting co-design and hardware/software co-verification tool establishes a level of performance and flexibility that PowerPC 440 core developers will appreciate.''

Innoveda's V-CPU is a high-performance co-verification tool for a variety of applications including PowerPC-based SoCs. It offers a complete environment for co-verification of hardware and software, and can be configured for most standard or custom processors or buses. It includes a software execution environment that runs embedded system software as if it were running on the target CPU. A logic simulation environment runs the representation of the embedded system hardware, responding to bus cycles initiated by the software. V-CPU is part of Innoveda's comprehensive set of system-level design tools including Visual Elite(TM), Regent(TM), eArchitect(TM) and E-SIM(TM). The addition of the IBM 440 PowerPC processor support package will extend V-CPU capabilities to IBM customers.

Unique Solution

In February, Wind River Systems and IBM announced support for the VxWorks RTOS on the IBM PowerPC 440 processor. V-CPU also supports the VxWorks RTOS through integration with the VxSim ``Virtual Target'' provided by Wind River Systems. V-CPU enables software engineers to use actual Register Transfer Level (RTL) code for hardware instead of stubs, to develop applications that run on VxSim.

Anderson added, ``Customers using the IBM PowerPC 440 core and the VxWorks RTOS will be able to start their co-design work using the VxSim Virtual Target. The new 440 processor support package will link VxSim to a hardware simulator for true co-development of 440 PowerPC-based SoCs. Since V-CPU has the implicit access capability, these applications will need minimal porting to move to the final target SoC.''
