Infineon and videantis announce 65nm platform verification with multi-standard video processing solution
Munich, Hanover, Germany – January 24, 2007 -- Infineon Technologies AG and videantis GmbH have successfully realized multi-standard video processing solutions in the most advanced high-performance 65nm low-power CMOS technology. Infineon developed the 65nm process technology in the leading 65/45nm development alliance consisting of IBM, Chartered, Infineon, and Samsung. The IC (Integrated Circuit) was produced with Chartered Semiconductor in Singapore.
The chip was developed by videantis and is especially designed for mobile multimedia applications. The IC is based on multiple cores of the v-MP2000M multi-standard video engine. Due to its full programmability, the video architecture features video compression and decompression, e.g., H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, WMV9/VC-1, and MPEG-2, transcoding, and video enhancement functionality like scaling and blending. With an area less than 1mm² and supporting operating frequencies of 300MHz and beyond, this video engine is ideally suited for a wide range of products, e.g. from design-to-cost optimized mobile phones up to high definition television applications.
The successful project between the two companies again demonstrates the outstanding capabilities of Infineon's 65nm power efficient process technology allowing the realisation of H.264 Base Line Profile decoding at D1 resolution on a single v-MP2000M core with unprecedented 15mW.
The videantis video processor is a further proof that Infineon's 65nm platform technology combines excellent chip performance for most advanced applications at very low power consumption with a design system fostering first-time-right realizations.
