MUNICH, Germany Infineon Technologies AG today announced that it has licensed MystiCom Ltd.'s DSP-based Fast Ethernet physical layer (PHY) core. The MystiPHY110core will be integrated into upcoming application-specific standard products (ASSPs) for applications such as xDSL, cable and ADSL modems, voice-over-the-Internet protocol (voIP) systems, local-area network (LAN) phones, network-interface controller (NIC) cards, routers, switches and telecommunications infrastructure equipment. "The MystiPHY110 DSP-based design delivers higher noise and crosstalk immunity, lower power and die size, and longer distance transmission than that of competitive PHYs, and enables Infineon to design products that facilitate better overall networking and communications system performance," said Christian Wolff, vice president and general manager of Infineon's Transceiver Group. "In addition, MystiCom's highly portable, pre-verified core is a perfect complem ent to our existing communications technology and will allow us to design and deliver complex system-on-chip solutions within shrinking time-to-market constraints." The MystiPHY110 offers high noise and crosstalk immunity, meeting the IEEE specification for near-end crosstalk. It also operates over cable lengths of 160 meters and features low-power dissipation under 300 milliwatts. In addition, the core can be used in multi-port designs to enable higher volume data transmission. The company plans to introduce its Gigabit Ethernet PHY technology later this year. MystiCom (Netanya, Israel) offers reusable, pre-verified cores to designers of ASSPs, ASICs and standard integrated circuits. The MystiPHY110 is a 10/100-Mbits/second Ethernet PHY, or transceiver, that has been designed using patent-pending DSP and mixed-signal techniques. David Almagor, founder and chief executive officer of MystiCom, said several companies have licensed the MystiPHY110 core and have integrated it into their standard CMOS processes. In addition, the MystiPHY110 has been qualified for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s existing 0.25-micron and future 0.18-micron process technologies. Infineon products incorporating MystiCom's PHY core are expected to begin sampling in the first quarter of 2001.
