Growth Patterns of MEMS Industry Changing according to EmTech Research
Ann Arbor, MI, June 27, 2005 – Revenues and unit shipments of MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems) both rose by 15.2% in 2004, reports EmTech Research, a division of Small Times Media. Sales were fairly even across all device categories, with both sensors and actuators enjoying increased levels of market penetration. But there is change ahead.
"The overall growth of MEMS is anticipated to undergo a fundamental shift," says Marlene Bourne, Vice President of Research and Principal Analyst with EmTech Research. "Revenue increases are projected to slow into the single digits over the next five years, even as unit shipments continue to expand at double-digit rates. This is a direct result of the kinds of MEMS devices that are entering the market."
A report from EmTech Research also finds that:
-
Texas Instruments overtook Hewlett Packard as the leading supplier of MEMS devices, based on 2004 revenues, although HP retained its #1 ranking based on unit shipments.
-
The Communications market, led by cell phones, will see the biggest gain through 2009, nearly quadrupling its share of total MEMS revenues.
The just released report, Entering a New Phase of Growth: 2005 MEMS Forecast, provides a concise overview of key trends, as well as succinct discussion and detailed forecasts of MEMS devices and markets through 2009. It also includes rankings of the Top 25 MEMS suppliers overall (by both unit shipments and revenues), as well as the Top 5 suppliers for each major MEMS device category.
