GDA Technologies Announces Engineering Services Support for Cavium Networks OCTEON II Multicore MIPS64 Processor
San Jose, CA -- April 16, 2009
– GDA Technologies, Inc., the rapidly growing IP and Electronic Design Services (EDS) subsidiary of L&T Infotech, Ltd., announced today its support for OCTEON II Processors from Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless, video, and security applications.
As a Cavium PACE (Partnership to Accelerate Customer End-solutions) member, GDA helps reduce time to market for networking OEMs by providing ready-to-use OCTEON based systems and sub-systems. GDA’s upcoming OCTEON II Gigabit Ethernet AMC board will be a single-width, full-size module with up to 2 GB of 64-bit DDR-3 memory. The board also features NOR flash memory on the boot bus, supporting flexible boot options, and a PSRAM on the boot bus as persistent memory to log system information over system reset/crash. Additionally, the front panel of the board comprises of a quad SFP module supporting GE copper or fiber interfaces. This makes this board ideal for embedded applications in pervasive computing, security, and wired and wireless telecommunications. The board also comes with a debug port on the front panel with support for Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI v1.5) on the AMC edge connector.
The highly integrated module architecture implemented on the AMC form-factor (AMC.0 Rev.2) improves system performance, simplifies board design, lowers power consumption, and reduces system implementation cost, while addressing power budget and heat constraints of AMC expansion bays in MicroTCATM and AdvancedTCATM carriers. The platform comes with packaged embedded software on Flash-based embedded Linux® OS with device drivers. GDA is working with leading software application stack providers to offer targeted software solutions that will enable this platform to be integrated into shippable end products at a rapid pace.
"Our OCTEON II based AMC product will enable our customers to accelerate their own core application development and arrive to market much faster and with significantly reduced risk,” explained Gopa Periyadan, Vice President & GM of the System and Software unit at GDA Technologies. “GDA is always one of the first to offer support for leading-edge high-performance industry-standard platforms. With OCTEON II, we're going a step further and offering compelling, market ready applications on the platform.”
“GDA and their parent company L&T Infotech are among the leading Engineering Design Services vendors who have expertise in the AMC and ATCA platform space and wireless software development in the WiMAX and LTE markets," said YJ Kim, Senior Director, Embedded Processor Group, Cavium Networks. "We are very pleased to see their support of the OCTEON II based platform. GDA will help our customers to customize and integrate the platform and the software in a cost effective manner."
The recently announced Cavium Networks next generation OCTEON II Internet Application Processor (IAP) family is designed for the next generation of Hypernetworks serving enterprise, data center, access and service provider markets which require support for converged data, voice and video. The OCTEON II target applications include switches, routers, appliances, equipment for 3G, WiMAX, LTE, wireless LAN, and unified storage systems and adapters. The OCTEON II family integrates 1 to 32 MIPS64 cores, up to 75 Application Acceleration Engines for quality of service, packet processing, TCP, compression, encryption, RAID, de-duplication and regular expression processing, up to 400Gbps of DDR3 memory bandwidth, and up to 100Gbps of network connectivity while consuming only 2W to 60W across the entire family.
