Chips&Media paving new road towards 8K with launch of Dual-CORE HEVC+H.264 combined codec IP
Seoul, Korea – February 18, 2018 -- Chips&Media, a leading video technology provider, announced WAVE541C, Dual-CORE HEVC+H.264 combined codec IP optimally architected for 8K resolution video based on WAVE521C. The new IP will empower edge devices to efficiently encode and decode 8K content, and through the introduction of WAVE541C, Chips&Media will bring 8K video to the products, which are far closer than ones would ever imagined before.
8K content was first became available from live broadcasting of 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, Russia World Cup, and plan to be followed by Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020 where it will be transmitted in 8K. The television will not be the only medium where 8K content be available. Action Cams, and mobile video recording devices (mobile phones and camcorders) started to include 8K recording as a new functionality. These user generated and televised content will be available to viewers via Video Hosting Services, as YouTube and Vimeo are upgrading their infrastructures for 8K content streaming. Along with video service, hardware displays such as televisions and VR headsets will be debuting in the market and expects to gain the popularity at fast pace. The emergence of 5G network will also be the key contributing factor (trigger) for the wide deployment of applications which will be utilizing 8K content for its hyper-realism.
