Vivante Brings GPU IP Solutions to MIPS Alliance Program

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- July 30, 2008 -- Vivante Corporation, the embedded GPU technology leader, announced today that it has joined the MIPS® Alliance Program to bring its programmable graphics IP cores to designers using cores from MIPS Technologies (NasdaqGS: MIPS). Vivante will optimize its HD Visual Reality and Mobile Visual Reality line of 2D and 2D/3D graphics processor IP solutions, for integration in designs using the MIPS32® 24K® and MIPS32® 24KE™ cores, which are widely used in media server, DVD, set-top box and mobile solutions.

Consumer requirements for advanced 3D user interfaces and image processing has made inclusion of a GPU a must-have for high definition home entertainment as well as traditional embedded graphics markets like game consoles, smart phones, navigation, and ultra mobile computing.

"We are pleased to welcome Vivante to the MIPS Alliance Program," said Jack Browne, vice president of marketing, Processor Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "In the digital living room, where MIPS Technologies holds a leading position, customers are increasingly looking to differentiate with high-end 3D graphics. Vivante’s groundbreaking graphical IP cores, together with MIPS’ processor cores, offer a range of scalable solutions for customers’ next-generation products, with the best possible combination of high performance, low power and compact area."

Vivante’s 2D/3D GC series GPU IP product line supports OpenGL® ES 2.0, OpenGL® ES 1.1 and OpenVG® application programming interfaces defined by the Khronos Group. Vivante’s GPU IP product line includes GPU cores that are being deployed into a broad range of consumer and automotive electronics devices including high definition home entertainment, mobile devices and automotive instrument cluster and console displays. Vivante’s GPU technology is architected from the ground up to deliver a high precision, true unified shader implementation, which maximizes graphics performance and quality delivered per milliwatt of system power consumption with the smallest silicon footprint available today. Vivante’s GPU cores are delivered as soft IP designed to quickly and consistently reach target frequency and optimal final silicon area using provided reference implementation packages for CadenceTM and SynopsysTM design tool environments.

"Vivante is already helping MIPS licensees to add GPUs to their next generation platforms," says Wei-Jin Dai, Chief Executive Officer of Vivante Corporation "By joining the MIPS Alliance program and optimizing our GPU solutions with MIPS we can offer mutual customers the best solution in terms of graphics quality, ease of integration and cost competitiveness."
