Vodaphone and Intertrust Enter Into OMA DRM Agreement: Long-Term Licensing Agreement to Accelerate DRM Adoption in the Mobile Market
London and Sunnyvale, CA
-- November 9, 2005 -- Vodafone and Intertrust Technologies today announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement for mobile Digital Rights Management (DRM) based services. The agreement consists of a patent license from Intertrust that covers Vodafone services that employ Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DRM. Device makers seeking to sell devices to Vodafone networks will still need to obtain a separate manufacturers’ license from Intertrust.
“We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Intertrust,” said Guy Laurence, Global Terminal and Consumer Marketing Director at Vodafone. “DRM is an important technology for protecting and managing content and will allow Vodafone to provide rich content services to its subscribers. Intertrust’s inventions are fundamental to the deployment of rich media services in the mobile space.”
“Our inventions are truly enabling for mobile DRM and CE devices,” said Talal Shamoon, CEO of Intertrust. “Vodafone is the global leader in the area of Mobile content services and a key driver of DRM technology adoption. We are pleased to work with Vodafone and others in the mobile consumer vertical to propagate the deployment of interoperable DRM and exciting DRM-enabled consumer services.”
