Nordic VLSI launches the nRF2402, a highly integrated component for wireless communication manufactured in an ultra modern 0.18um CMOS process
Highest integration
The nRF2402 is a highly integrated component for wireless communication manufactured in an ultra modern 0.18um CMOS process. The entire transmitter including all inductors and filters is integrated in a single chip that gives the lowest solution cost to the end user. The only external components needed to make a complete RF system is a crystal and a resistor. Current consumption is around 10mA transmitting at @ -5dBm output power. The total solution fits into a 4x4mm QFN package.
Innovative embedded features in nRF2402 to reduce cost and current consumption
The nRF2402 takes advantage of a datarate of 1Mbit/sec. It uses an on-chip FIFO allowing the micro controller to clock in data at a low data rate and the RF transmitter to transmit at a very high rate. This feature called ShockBurst enables an extreme reduction in power consumption. For example a typical attainable reduction in power consumption can average 95% with a 10kbit/sec continuous link. The nRF2402 also contain on chip hardware to perform CRC computation on the data payload prior to transmission, drastically reducing the computational load on the system micro controller, and consequently the system cost and complexity "For customers requiring wireless functionality, but where local regulations has prohibited the use of RF technology the nRF2402 and the nRF2401 represents the ideal solution. They are small, use extremely little current, and can operate on most known battery technologies. Effectively they can replace IR and typical 27MHz communication in most applications. The nRF2401 and nRF2402 represents a true global alternative with a frequency range and RF performance which which is approved worldwide" says Geir Langeland, Product Manager for Nordic VLSI's standard products.
